Riso Flora is produced through a CO2 = ZERO balance process, where greenhouse gas emissions from energy consumption are completely offset by the benefit gained through the production of energy from renewable sources and through the purchase of certified carbon credits thanks to the collaboration with Rete Clima.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Sostenibilità

ambientale

Flora is produced in facilities that use energy from renewable sources, with
a technology that essentially reduces water consumption.

Plastic free

Thanks to Flora Method, which gets rid of vacuum packing, our packages are 100% plastic free.

FSC® CARDBOARD

Flora’s packages are made of FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certified cardboard, meaning that it’s made from raw materials from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources, greaseproof and 100% recyclable.

REFORESTATION

Flora encourages important reforestation projects by planting trees to offset CO2 emissions.

All emissions from the rice production and packaging stages are offset, i.e. emissions related all activities under Euricom’s direct operational control: electricity production and consumption, methane gas consumption, diesel oil consumption for company vehicles, runaway emissions.

Emissions are offset through a strategy of replacing fossil sources with renewable sources. The electricity used by Flora is self-produced in the company’s own biomass plant. The low-CO2 bioenergy given to Rete avoids some emissions that would have occurred from producing the same amount of energy from traditional sources. The remaining emissions are offset through the purchase of carbon credits.

Emissions were deteminated by GHG Protocol methodology. For the year 2020, emissions under direct operational control of Euricom Group amount to 8.292 t CO2 eq. From these emissions, “avoided emissions” were deducted due to the transfer of low-carbon bioenergy to the Rete. Referring to 2020, the estimate was made with the following parameters:

– 5,507,742 kWh of bioenergy was transferred to the National Grid.
– The electricity supplied by Enel has an average emission factor of 0.214 kg CO2 eq./kWh (Source: Enel GHG Inventory 2020).
– The emission factor of Flora’s self-produced electricity is 0, as it is biomass energy. The emission savings thus amount to 5,507,742 kWh*(0.214 – 0 kg CO2 eq./kWh) = 1,179 t CO2 eq.

It can be concluded that for the year 2020 the balance between emissions generated and avoided by Euricom system is è di 7.113 t CO2 eq.

These emissions have been offset through the cooperation with Rete Clima by participating in local planting initiative and through the purchase of certified carbon credits related to renewable energy production. It’s possible to say that all products that leave Italian facilities are GHG Protocol certified.
